Welcome

Welcome to the Road to Reading blog. You will see from my profile that I am a teacher and mother of 2 young boys. After teaching Prep for several years and embarking on the journey of motherhood I began 'Road to Reading' - a program that develops literacy skills in children. I run classes for preschool children where we explore phonics, concepts of print and pre-reading skills. There are two things you need to know about me ... my philosophy if you like:
  • Never underestimate children
  • Strive for excellence
The aim of this blog is to encourage a dialogue about the importance of literacy in young children and to help parents with issues that they encounter along the way. I hope to enlighten, excite and encourage parents to become involved with literacy as they raise their babies, toddlers, school children (and beyond).

Many parents I speak to desperately want to help their children and prepare them for reading but they are overwhelmed at the notion. It's not that they don't want to help their child ... they simply don't know how. 'Tell me what to do and I'll do it!' they say.

So let's get started ...
